Secretary-General's video message to Ministerial Meeting Marking the 50th Anniversary of the UN Development Programme
Statements | Ban Ki-moon, Former Secretary-General
Distinguished Heads of State and Government, Your Excellency Mr. Mogens Lykketoft, President of the General Assembly, Excellencies, Ms. Helen Clark, UNDP Administrator and Chair of the United Nations Development Group, Ladies and Gentlemen,
This year marks a milestone for development.
The United Nations Development Programme celebrates 50 years since its founding.
For half a century, UNDP has been on the frontlines of human need and aspiration.
With its global presence and programmatic reach, UNDP has helped to combat poverty and to rebuild countries affected by crisis.
With pioneering analysis and forceful advocacy, UNDP has worked with governments, civil society and the private sector to build capable institutions and inclusive societies.
And with a strong commitment to the most vulnerable members of society, UNDP has sought to empower people, especially women and girls.
UNDP also plays the key coordinating role in the UN development system. This role will become even more important as we support national efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
As we look to fulfil the great promise of the 2030 Agenda, I thank the UNDP family, past and present, for raising standards of living and advancing human well-being across the world.
Thank you.
