Secretary-General's message to the Incheon 2014 Asian Para Games
Statements | Ban Ki-moon, Former Secretary-General
I am pleased to send greetings to all participants at the 2014 Asian Para Games in Incheon.
The Paralympic movement embraces the values of diversity and inclusion that the United Nations actively strives to uphold and defend.
Sport has the power to improve people’s health and wellbeing, celebrate diversity and foster understanding. That is why the United Nations promotes sport for peace, development and human rights, including equality for all persons with disabilities.
I am pleased that the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace has worked with the Korean Paralympic Committee to host the Inclusive Sport and Society Forum earlier this week in Incheon.
I applaud the many dedicated athletes, coaches, families, and organizing participants who make these Games possible. Your efforts are integral to the overall mission of creating fully inclusive societies. I am proud to be your fan.
I wish you all great success. Let the Games begin!
