Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General on Bangladesh

The Secretary-General is distressed at the mounting death toll in the violent two-day mutiny by members of the Bangladesh Rifles border guards. He condemns such brutal acts of violence and extends his deepest sympathy to the victims, to their families and to the people and Government of Bangladesh.

The Secretary-General calls for calm and the resolution of this situation without further violence.
