Statement Attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General on Algeria (please scroll down for the French version)

The Secretary-General strongly condemns the terrorist bombing that reportedly targeted the convoy of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika on 6 September during a visit to the city of Batna in eastern Algeria, killing and wounding a large number of innocent civilians. The Secretary-General extends his solidarity and his condolences to the Government and people of Algeria and in particular to the families of the victims. He urges once again that the international community work together to reject and to combat terrorism in all of its expressions.

Le Secrétaire général condamne l'explosion terroriste du 6 septembre qui aurait visé le convoi du Président Abdelaziz Bouteflika en tournée dans la ville de Batna, à l'est du pays. Cette attaque a tué et blessé un grand nombre de personnes innocentes. Le Secrétaire général présente ses condoléances et assure de toute sa solidarité le Gouvernement ainsi que le peuple d'Algérie et en particulier les familles des victimes. Il fait une fois de plus appel à la communauté internationale pour qu'elle s'unisse dans le combat contre toute forme de terrorisme.
