I send my warmest greetings to the UN Foundation and the United Nations Association of the USA.

It is an honour to speak to the many outstanding American leaders and friends who are working and advocating for our United Nations.

You are amplifying our messages and multiplying our connections across the United States and around the world.

It is a great pleasure to thank you for your steadfast support.

Like many of you, I started my journey as an advocate, working to increase access to education and social services in my home country of Nigeria.

Today, I am working to build and strengthen partnerships with global leaders, civil society, and changemakers like you, to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

With only eight years left in the Decade of Action to implement the SDGs, and many setbacks as a result of the pandemic, our work now is more important than ever.

Despite the many challenges our world is facing–from COVID-19 and climate change to new and ongoing conflicts and worsening inequalities, I begin my second term with a renewed sense of hope and firm belief in the power of solidarity.

Why?

Because of advocates and supporters like you.   Whether on your school campus, in your community, or on a national scale, you are putting words into action, laying the foundations for a better future.

Your advocacy has impact.

Over the past year, the United States has re-engaged with the United Nations and once again put its support behind our humanitarian and development agencies.

I’m sure many of you attended last year’s summit and watched live as Secretary-General Guterres welcomed America’s reentry into the Paris Agreement on climate change.

My message to you all today is this: remain motivated and mobilized. The UN Foundation and the United Nations Association of the USA are paths to progress for all.

Local and global, we are all connected.

If you engage in an educational programme, if you take a step to write an article, if you give your support to a local social service agency, you are helping to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The UN Foundation and UNA-USA are making a difference in homes, communities, organizations and corporations here in the United States, and around the world.

Small actions can lead to big change.

Together, we will build a healthier, more equitable world, and create inclusive economies and societies that leave no one behind.

Thank you.
