CTED co-organizes side event about the Terrorist Content Analytics Platform

On September 24, 2019, the UN Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate (CTED) co-organized a side event on the margins of the 74th United Nations General Assembly called, Introducing the Terrorist Content Analytics Platform (TCAP). This side event was co-organized with Tech Against Terrorism, an initiative launched and supported by CTED working with the global tech industry to tackle terrorist use of the internet whilst respecting human rights. During this event, Tech Against Terrorism introduced the TCAP, which it is developing with support from the Government of Canada, as the world’s first centralized platform of verified terrorist content, and received valuable feedback from civil society members, academia, the tech sector, as well as government and inter-governmental organizations for future development of the platform. CTED offered opening remarks and also participated in a panel on the threat assessment of the state of terrorist use of small platforms and new technologies, open-source intelligence and data collection, and challenges related to them. The following day, Tech Against Terrorism and CTED also held the initiative’s Advisory Group and Experts Committee meeting, where the key stakeholders provided recommendations for its governance structure, feedback on the initiative’s past two years of activities, and suggestions for the way forward.
