PRESS BRIEFING BY MONICA GRAYLEY, SPOKESPERSON FOR GENERAL ASSEMBLY PRESIDENT MARÍA FERNANDA ESPINOSA
Good afternoon, everyone!
I will start today with you and Steph will follow…
GA HOLDS FIRST INTERACTIVE DIALOGUE ON SUSTAINING PEACE
Today, the General Assembly and the Peacebuilding Commission are organising the first ever informal and interactive dialogue on peacebuilding and sustaining peace.
This dialogue is the result of a GA resolution, which was adopted last year, inviting relevant bodies of the UN to further advance, explore and consider the implementation of recommendations and options established in the report of the Secretary-General about sustaining peace.
Member States are debating aspects such as policy coherence, financing and peacebuilding, accountability and partnerships for peacebuilding among others. The GA is providing a forum for rethinking the budgeting and financing of peace processes, the role of youth and women as key partners in peace processes and the relation between sustaining peace and the development agenda.
The meeting will conclude this afternoon at 5.30 pm.

PGA WILL CHAIR MEETING ON CLIMATE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT FOR ALL
And for your diaries: On 28 and 29 March, the President of the General Assembly will convene a High-Level Meeting on the Protection of the Global Climate for Present & Future Generations of Humankind.
This event is happening as per the UNGA Resolution 72/219 and in the Context of the Economic, Social and Environmental Dimensions of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Member States will be represented by Heads of State and Government and State Ministers, other guests include representatives of civil society and the private sector. They will take part in two panels on synergies between climate and the sustainable development agenda and means of implementation.
Participants will also focus on identifying specific actions, commitments, and means of implementation that can make a material difference to climate change mitigation and adaptation or signal an emerging precedent for action.
In order to directly listen to as many people as possible about climate action and what governments are doing about it, the PGA is asking for questions to be sent to her on the internet through the PGA 73’s accounts on Twitter and Instagram. Ms. Espinosa will answer them, and a video of this interaction will be posted on the internet on 28 March.
This is all from us. Do you have any questions?
