NEW YORK 27 October 2020 – COVID-19 is impacting the world’s Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in unprecedented, profound and disproportionate ways. This is why these countries, often unable to afford comprehensive response plans, need more international support.  

So what does COVID-19 mean for the most vulnerable countries and the support they need from the international community?

I thank Special Representative Mami Mizutori and team for her leadership on this event, as well as the ILO and UN Women for their close partnership.

Financing the SDGs in the LDCs: Diversifying the Financing Tool-box and Managing Vulnerability (2016)

Achieving the 2030 Agenda will be a challenge for all countries. It is however particularly salient for the 48 Least Developed Countries (LDCs) where levels of deprivation are acute, infrastructure is inadequate, economies are vulnerable and capital is in short supply.Yet these are the countries we need to reach first if we are to meet the aspiration to “leave no one behind”.
