Sevilla, Spain
Ms. Eva Granados, Secretary of State for International Cooperation, Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation,
Excellencies,
Distinguished Delegates,
Dear Colleagues,
Buenas Tardes (Good afternoon),
As the United Nations flag is lowered, we mark the end of a historic conference, the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development.
The resounding success of FFD4 has demonstrated our collective will and strength to tackle the most urgent and complex financing challenges of our time with ambition and unity. It has reaffirmed our joint commitment to multilateralism.
The Compromiso de Sevilla, adopted by consensus, stands as a testament to our shared ambition and global solidarity. This week’s Conference marks our first stride forward on the path to implement Sevilla’s three strategic steps, as poetically reflected in the logo of the Conference to:
1. Catalyse investments to close the $4 trillion SDG financing gap in developing countries;
2. Tackle the debt and sustainable development crisis; and
3. Reform the international financial architecture to be more inclusive, transparent, and effective.
This Conference has proven that the United Nations is more than just a space for dialogue; it is a powerful platform for solutions that transform lives.
This progress wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and hard work of so many people.
First and foremost, I want to express the deepest gratitude to our host, the Government of Spain and the legendary city of Sevilla. From the moment we started planning more than a year ago, your commitment and support have been unwavering.
In my capacity as Secretary-General of the Conference, I would like to sincerely thank each of you for your efforts.
To the volunteers, the Spanish police and military, security officers, firefighters, civil servants and many other local staff, who have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly, the United Nations is deeply grateful for your support and contribution. Your warmth and hospitality have made our stay in Sevilla truly memorable.
Allow me to also thank my UN colleagues who have been so devoted to making FFD4 a great success. Your outstanding commitment, dedication and professionalism throughout this process are greatly appreciated.
As we depart, let us carry the spirit of Sevilla forward, with renewed energy and a shared resolve to build a just, inclusive, and equitable future we all deserve. We look forward to continuing our journey together.
Muchas Gracias.
Thank you so much.
