The path to sustainable development is never straightforward.
For Small Island Developing States, the challenges are particularly complex. These nations face a unique combination of geographic isolation, vulnerabilities due to small, undiversified economies, a high dependence on external markets, limited fiscal space, and the accelerating impacts of climate change.
Yet, SIDS are meeting these challenges with innovation, collaboration, and resilience -- creating lasting solutions.
The Financing for Small Island Developing States initiative, led by UN DESA, provides a key option. Using the Integrated National Financing Framework approach, FINS empowers SIDS with a practical entry point to navigate these challenges more effectively.
Currently supporting the Dominican Republic, Seychelles, Fiji, and Vanuatu, FINS designs financing strategies that align resources with national priorities, supporting progress towards the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS and the SDGs. This Is not only about addressing financing gaps; it is also about ensuring SIDS lead their own direction and long-term development.
FINS translates policy frameworks into country-specific actions. Through sustained engagement with ministries and by placing national advisors in key ministries, we work hand in hand with Governments to develop tailored solutions.
At our upcoming FINS side event at FfD4, participants will hear directly from these four countries. They will share firsthand how the initiative is driving progress — from mobilizing diverse resources to implementing critical reforms, and building resilient financing pathways. We invite you to join this important dialogue to explore practical solutions and strengthen partnerships for the sustainable future of SIDS.
Thank you.
