Join Google+ Hangout on sustainable development

With the Rio+20 Conference in June last year, a new phase took off leading the way to a sustainable future. “Join us for a Google+ Hangout on February 12 to find out more about how the UN and the world community are taking action to realize the promises made,” says Nikhil Seth, Director of DESA’s Division for Sustainable Development.

Over 1 300 voluntary commitments were made and 637 billion US dollars have been pledged to sustainable development since the Rio+20 Conference took place. And with an engaged international community working together, the stage is set for a successful implementation.

Exploring key outcomes of Rio+20 and the way forward, the first in a series of “Sustainable Development in Action” Google+ Hangouts will be hosted by DESA’s Division for Sustainable Development on Tuesday, 12 February at 12 pm EST on the UN Google+ account at gplus.to/unitednations.

Panellists will include Nikhil Seth; Elizabeth Thompson, Executive Coordinator for the Rio+20 Conference; Kimo Goree, Vice-President of the International Institute for Sustainable Development Reporting Services (IISD); and Jacob Scherr, Director of global strategy and advocacy for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC).

“We also want to hear your questions! Send them via Twitter using the hashtag #SDinAction,” adds Nikhil Seth encouraging, as the Hangout will also feature a 20-minute live Q&A session with the panellists.

Questions can be sent to @SustDev using #SDinAction or posted on the Sustainable Development Knowledge Platform Facebook page. Those who are interested can also register for one of our Sustainable Development Action Networks to join the conversation there.

Don’t miss this opportunity to get updated on the work of the UN and the international community, putting commitments into actions to achieve the future we want for all.
