The United Nations and the international community are collaborating on all fronts to follow up on the Rio+20 Conference held in June this year, cultivating the new momentum generated for achieving a sustainable future. Strengthening capacities across the globe to implement sustainable development play a crucial role in these efforts.

On 14-16 November, the technical arm of DESA’s Division for Sustainable Development, the United Nations Office for Sustainable Development (UNOSD) will be holding a three-day international workshop in Incheon, the Republic of Korea, focusing on strengthening planning and implementation capacities for sustainable development in the post Rio+20 context.

The workshop will bring together about 100 participants representing Governments of developed and developing countries, civil society groups, the United Nations and other international organizations, academic institutions, independent policy think tanks and sustainable development networks.

The event aims to share experiences and lessons learned in implementing sustainable development at national and local levels; to gauge the efficacy and suitability of existing knowledge and capacity building efforts; and create opportunities for building partnerships in knowledge-sharing in the area of planning and implementation of sustainable development.

Several plenary sessions, panel discussions and working groups focusing on specific themes will be held in addition to the keynote speeches by some eminent thought-leaders in sustainable development.
