Saturday, 20 September
Today is World Cleanup Day.
The Goals Lounge, convened by the UN Deputy Secretary-General and hosted by the UN Office for Partnerships, will be held from 20-26 September, featuring unscripted dialogues, deep dives into vital issues and interactive experiences. All events will be live streamed on UN WebTV.
The #YouthLead Festival will take place at the UN Headquarters in New York from 20-29 September. The week-long celebration of youth leadership and intergenerational action at the United Nations and beyond will be anchored around the 80thsession of the UN General Assembly (UNGA80) and the 30th Anniversary of the World Programme of Action for Youth (WPAY30). The festival brings together young people and their allies to reflect on progress made, create momentum and continue shaping the future of global decision-making.
Today, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is expected to release the FAO Statistical Yearbook.
Sunday, 21 September
Today is the International Day of Peace. The UN will launch a new global advocacy and social mobilization campaign, Hear Us. Act Now for a Peaceful World, to recognize and empower young people as agents of peace. The campaign will be launched with an inaugural Peace Circle – an intergenerational dialogue on solutions facilitated by young people. The UN Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications, Melissa Fleming, will launch the campaign at the SDG Media Zone, which will also be attended by Mary Robinson from The Elders. The Campaign will contribute to the UN Secretary-General’s independent study on young people’s positive contribution to peace, which is expected in September 2026, as a direct outcome of the 2024 Pact for the Future.
The Global Africa Business Initiative (GABI) will convene the 4th edition of Unstoppable Africa, on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Mid-Town Manhattan, New York. The event will be held on 21 and 22 September, and will bring together the private sector, governments, policymakers, global and regional stakeholders to develop actionable frameworks for Africa’s transformation; promoting trade and investment opportunities in Africa and the world. The Secretary-General is expected to deliver remarks at the opening of the event, which will start at 10:00 a.m. on 21 September.
At 12:00 p.m., the NYC Climate Murals Official 'Green Walking' Tour will take place in New York City. Meeting point: Crossing 36th street and 11th avenue.
At 3:00 p.m., there will be a side event entitled “At risk and underfunded: The impact of global funding cuts on women’s rights organizations working to end violence against women and girls.” UN Women will present findings from its 2025 global survey under the EU-funded ACT Programme, with reflections from civil society and donors. The event will call for long-term, flexible financing and stronger partnerships to sustain feminist movements as essential actors for achieving SDG 5.
At 19:00 p.m., there will be Wreath-Laying Ceremony marking the 64th anniversary of the death of former Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld. The ceremony will take place at the Memorial Wall, in the Visitor’s Lobby.

The UN Department of Global Communications (DGC) will open the flagship SDG Media Zone during the high-level week from 22 to 26 September, with impactful in-depth interviews and dialogues on global issues that matter to people everywhere.

At 9:00 a.m., at the General Assembly Hall, the High-level Meeting to Commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the United Nations will take place. This one-hour meeting will mark the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations, with UN officials and Heads of State and Government reflecting on the achievements of the past eight decades and the path ahead for a more inclusive and responsive multilateral system. The Secretary-General is expected to deliver remarks.
At 9:00 a.m., the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the Food Tank, the Apeel Sciencesthe , FlashFood and the American Frozen Food Institute, and ReFED are organizing the event Climate Action: A Food Waste Breakthrough.
At 10:00 a.m., also at the General Assembly Hall, there will be a High-level Meeting on the 30th Anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women. Marking the thirtieth anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, the UN General Assembly will convene the meeting centered on the theme “Recommitting to, resourcing and accelerating the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.” The Secretary-General is expected to deliver remarks.
At noon, the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General will hold a press briefing, broadcast live on UN Web TV. This will be followed by a briefing by the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly.
Also, at noon, the UN Private Sector Forum, hosted annually by the United Nations Global Compact on behalf of the UN Secretary-General, will take place at the Delegates Dining Room. This year’s Forum will bring together 50 influential leaders—including CEOs, investors, Heads of State and Government and senior UN officials—for a candid, forward-looking dialogue on how to scale up private capital for sustainable and inclusive development.
At 12:00 p.m., the Women Rise for All Lunch will be convened by the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed. Building on the success of past Women Rise for All Lunches, the event will continue to celebrate transformative leadership in advancing the SDG’s. This event will connect influential leaders globally, providing a platform to share insights, strategies, and strengthen networks aimed at driving sustainable development.
At 12:00 p.m., in Conference Room 3, there will be an event on Energy Resilience and Green Recovery in Ukraine.
At 1:00 p.m., a high-level event entitled Hunger in the Crossfire: No Time to Spare. Confronting Famine Now will be held at the EU Delegation, located at 666 Third Avenue, 31st floor.
At 1:15 p.m., in Conference Room 5, there will be an event on Social participation and health equity as drivers of sustainable and prosperous societies.
At 2:00 p.m., at the Economic and Social Council Chamber, the SDG Moment will highlight inspiring action on the Sustainable Development Goals. Convened by the Secretary General in line with General Assembly resolution 74/4, this year’s theme is ‘Keeping the Promise’. The Secretary-General is expected to deliver remarks.
At 2:00 p.m., the official unveiling ceremony of the NYC Climate Action Murals will take place at the High Line, at the crossing of 21st street.
At 3:00 p.m., at the General Assembly Hall, the United Nations will resume the High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia. The Conference will reaffirm international commitments to the two-State solution and seek to mobilize support for its implementation. The Secretary-General is expected to deliver remarks.
At 3:00 p.m., the event From Paris to Belém: Ten Years Later, How Far Has Business Come - and How Far Must It Go? will take place at the UN Headquarters.
At 3:00 p.m., the World Health Organization (WHO), the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Stronger Foundations for Nutrition, Micronutrient Forum and the Anaemia Action Alliance are organizing the event Nourish the goals: advancing integrated health and nutrition actions for maternal and child health and development will take place.
At 4:30 p.m., there will be an event entitled "AI as a Game Changer: Private Sector Innovation for an Inclusive Digital Economy", at the Ease 605 venue, New York.
At 6:00 p.m., the 4th Multistakeholder Gathering: Sustaining joint actions, coherent policies and inclusive programmes on NCDs and mental health will take place at 58 Park Ave, New York. Held on the margins of the UN High-Level Meeting, this event will be co-sponsored by the WHO Global Coordination Mechanism on NCDs (GCM/NCD), NCD Alliance and World Diabetes Foundation.
At 6:15 p.m., there will be a high-level side event on Social Business, Youth and Technology in Conference Room 12.
In Geneva, the 19th Meeting of the 60th Session of Human Rights Council will continue until 8 October and the 78th session of the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights will continue until 26 September.
Also, in Geneva, the 29th Session of the Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance will be held from 22 September to 02 October.
In Vienna, the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) will hold its first intersessional meeting to discuss preparations for the reconvened 34th session and the opening of the 35th session, as well as the preparations for the 15th UN Crime Congress to be held in Abu Dhabi from 25-30 April 2026.

At 9:00 a.m., in the General Assembly Hall, the General Debate of the 80th session begins. Today, the Leaders Summit 2025 will take place at the UN Global Compact Hub.
The 2025 Treaty Event, under the theme "Eighty Years of Multilateral Treaty Making at the United Nations", will be held at the UN Headquarters from 23 to 26 September.
At 8:00 a.m., in Conference Room 6, there will be an event entitled Democracy and Resilient Development in Latin America and the Caribbean: The Role of the Private Sector.
Also, at 8:00 a.m., in a hybrid event, the World Health Organization (WHO) will launch its 2025 Global report on hypertension.
At 9:00 a.m., the G20 Social Summit Side Event "Advancing Inclusive Growth, Social Justice and Human - Centered Development" will be hosted by South Africa in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Open Society Foundation This event will explore how the G20 can lead inclusive and just responses to global crises, aligned with South Africa’s G20 priorities on climate resilience, debt sustainability, a just energy transition, and the governance of critical minerals. It will also highlight the role of the G20 Social Summit as a platform for inclusive engagement with youth, civil society, women, labour, and grassroots movements.
At 9:30 a.m., the launch of the 3rd Global Progress Report on Sustainable Development Goal 16: Indicators on Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies will be held at the headquarters of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in New York.
At 11:00 a.m., the High-level Special Event “Framing Future of Water”, organized by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), in collaboration with Member States including Tajikistan, Senegal, and the United Arab Emirates, will take place at the United Nations DC2 Building, 23rd Floor Conference Room, DC2-2330.
At 11:00 a.m., in Conference Room 12, there will be an event entitled The Humanitarian, Development and Peace Nexus: Milestones in strengthening multilateral partnerships for sustainable impact and the SDGs.
At 12:30 p.m., the UN Children’s Office (UNICEF), in a by-invitation session, will bring together Member States and partners to discuss the Internally Displaced Person (IDP) Solutions Agenda. The event is organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM),, as Convenor of the Global Champions on Solutions to Internal Displacement, with support from the Global Solutions Hub on Internal Displacement.
At 1:00 p.m., the Security Council is scheduled to hold a high-level briefing on the situation of the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question. The Secretary-General is expected to deliver remarks.
At 1:15 p.m., the International Labour Organization (ILO), in collaboration with the State of Qatar, the Delegation of the European Union to the UN and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) will convene a high-level special event entitled Rebuilding Trust, Renewing Solidarity: State of Social Justice in the World. During the event, the inaugural seminal report of the ILO on the State of Social Justice in the World will be launched.
At 1:15 p.m., the Third Annual CAF / UNDP Conference on Governance for Development in Latin America and the Caribbean: Critical Natural Resources for Sustainable Development will be held in Conference Room 1.
Also, at 1:15 p.m., the event Full Speed Ahead: a Global Partnership to Eliminate Violence Against Women and Girls will take place in Conference Room 4. This event will be the co-hosted by the European Union, the African Union and the United Nations, and it will call for increased investment in the Spotlight Initiative, showcasing its vision and impact.

At 4:30 p.m., in commemoration of the International Day of Peace, the Peace Is All of Us Summit will be organized on the margins of UNGA80 by the United Nations Women's Peace & Humanitarian Fund (WPHF) at the UN Women Headquarters in New York. As part of the WPHF "Peace Is" flagship campaign and global summit series – launching in London on 17 September at the London School of Economics and continuing in New York 23 September in partnership with NYU, WILPF, UNF and UN Women – this urgent intergenerational dialogue will bridge global commitments with lived experiences and spotlight women’s leadership, youth activism, and local solutions. The event will be in-person, livestreamed, and followed by the appearance of WPHF global advocate Kristen Bell at Global Citizen Festival in Central Park on Saturday, 27 September.
At 6:00 p.m., the Anchor Event, titled “Digital for Good: For People and Prosperity,” the centerpiece of Digital@UNGA, will be convened by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
At 6:15 p.m., in Conference Room 5, there will be an event entitled Revolutionizing Care for Noncommunicable Diseases: Expanding Access through Primary Health Care.
At 7:00 p.m., the HeForShe Summit, held during UNGA80 under the theme of Equitable Masculinities and Safe Digital Spaces, will address the “manosphere”, a sprawling digital ecosystem fueling misogyny and disinformation. The event will serve as a rallying point to reclaim online spaces for gender equality and will showcase positive male role models supporting equality across all Sustainable Development Goals. At this summit, the HeForShe Alliance will unveil its 2025 IMPACT Report, which offers a timely reflection on both transformative progress and urgent challenges, especially in the online sphere. The launch of the second edition of the HeForShe Barbershop Toolkit will offer a practical, peer-led model for engaging men in meaningful conversations on gender equality. At 8:30 a.m., the report Unfinished Business: Private Sector and Gender Equality will be released at the UN Women Headquarters. This comprehensive report presents a global overview of progress and remaining gaps in corporate initiatives to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment.
At 9:00 a.m., First Biennial Summit for a Sustainable, Inclusive and Resilient Global Economy: Implementing commitments on financing development will take place in the ECOSOC Chamber. This first Biennial Summit, mandated by last year’s Pact for the Future, is envisaged as a platform to unite multilateral efforts and the international financial system around shared goals for sustainable development. The Secretary-General is expected to deliver remarks.
At 9:30 a.m., the fourth annual Energy Now SDG7 Action Forum will be convened by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and the UN-Energy Secretariat. This event will continue until 25 September.
At 10:00 a.m., the “Second Meeting: In Defense of Democracy, Fighting Against Extremism” will take place at the Trusteeship Council.
At 10:00 a.m., the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, with the support of the UN Friends of Vision group and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), will host a high-level side event entitled The Value of Vision: The Case for Investment.
At 10:00 a.m., the 2025 SDG Investment Forum: CFOs Driving Purpose, Profit, and Planet will take place at the UN Global Compact Hub.
At 10:30 a.m., the event One Vision, One Future: Rallying Global Momentum on NCDs for Generations to Come will be held in Conference Room 5.
At 11:00 a.m., the 49th Annual Meeting of Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the Group of 77 will take place at the headquarters of the United Nations.
At 11:00 a.m., at the UN Headquarters, the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Focal Points Network – the largest of its kind with 96 UN Member States and 10 regional organizations – will convene its annual Ministerial-Level Side Event during UNGA80. Hosted by Japan, Norway and UN Women, the meeting comes as conflicts, sexual violence, militarization, and crises intensify globally. The event will be in-person only and livestreamed.
At 1:00 p.m., the Accelerating Africa's Industrialization: High-Level Mobilization for the Fourth Industrial Development Decade for Africa (IDDA IV) will take place at the UN Headquarters.

Launch of the Third Global Report on Climate and SDG Synergies. The launch will feature two events: (1) the official High-Level launch by the co-conveners, the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), at the SDG Media Zone (24 September, 1:25 pm) and (2) a technical event at the SDG7 Action Forum (25 September, 1:00 p.m.).
At 1:30 p.m., the event Middle East Green Initiative: Partnering and forging synergies to restoring landscapes and generating sustainable livelihoods for climate resilience will be held at the headquarters of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in New York.
At 2:00 p.m., in the Trusteeship Council Chamber, the UN Secretary-General is convening a Climate Summit 2025 to serve as a platform for world leaders to present their new national climate action plans and seize the benefits of the new clean energy era. Ahead of COP30 in Brazil, the Summit will focus on demonstrating commitment and accelerating action to protect people and the planet in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement.
At 3:00 p.m., the Security Council is scheduled to hold an open debate on maintenance of international peace and security: Artificial Intelligence and international peace and security. The Secretary-General is expected to deliver remarks.

At 10:00 a.m., the G20 Foreign Ministers' meeting will take place at the ECOSOC Chamber. This meeting will continue in the afternoon. The Secretary-General is expected to deliver remarks in the morning.
At 10:00 a.m., in Conference Room 1, there will be a High-level Meeting on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases and the Promotion of Mental Health and Well-being. Heads of States and Government will meet to set a new vision for the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) — including cardiovascular diseases, cancers, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases — and the promotion of mental health and well-being towards 2030 and beyond, through a new, ambitious and achievable political declaration.
At 10:00 a.m., the 2025 Peacebuilding Commission Ministerial-level Meeting will take place at the Trusteeship Council Chamber.
At 11:00 a.m. at the UN Headquarters, the UN Women Leaders Network – a global intergenerational and intersectional group of high-level women leaders advocating for gender-equal participation in leadership and decision-making – will host Women’s Leadership for Peace. In cooperation with the United Nations Foundation, the event will spotlight women’s leadership in peacebuilding, conflict prevention, and crisis response.
At 11:00 a.m., the Generation Unlimited Global Leadership Council Meeting will take place at the UN Headquarters.
At 1:15 p.m., in the Trusteeship Council, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Kingdom of Spain, and the Federative Republic of Brazil will co-host a Ministerial-level meeting on the critical and indispensable role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), in advancing human development, regional stability, and peace and, at this moment of extreme crisis, providing the platform for global humanitarian assistance for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. The Secretary-General is expected to deliver remarks. Following the Ministerial event, a press conference will be held in the Press Briefing room with the participation of the UNRWA Commissioner-General, Philippe Lazzarini, as well as the Foreign Ministers of Jordan, Spain and Brazil.
At 2:30 p.m., an event at the 2025 SDG7 Action Forum on “Sustainable Energy and Clean Water Access to Ensure Quality Education and Learning Opportunities for All” will be convened by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) in cooperation with the Global Sustainable Water and Energy Solutions Network.

This event will discuss the status of the UN’s "Mosaic Approach", highlighting opportunities for reinforcing Afghan-led solutions, expanding democratic and representative spaces, safeguarding human rights—especially those of women and marginalized groups—and ensuring the Afghan people's aspirations are central to international engagement.
