PRESS RELEASE OF THE BUREAU OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY’S COMMITTEE ON THE EXERCISE OF THE INALIENABLE RIGHTS OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE
UN Palestinian Rights Committee Bureau condemns the order to implement the eviction of Khan al-Ahmar community in the occupied West Bank
New York, 4 June 2026 –The Bureau of the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People condemns the order signed by the Minister of Finance of Israel, Bezalel Smotrich, instructing the Israeli Civil Administration to begin proceeding with the eviction of the Palestinian community of Khan al-Ahmar in the so-called “E1 area” in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The eviction will heighten the risk of forced transfer of the civilian population, which is strictly prohibited under international law and amounts to a war crime.
The Committee Bureau reiterates its demand that Israel, the occupying Power, halt its so-called “E1 settlement plan” in the occupied West Bank, which includes the approval of plans for thousands of Israeli settlements units. The plan entrenches Israel’s illegal occupation, advances annexation, unlawful under international law, and violates the integrity of the Occupied Palestinian Territory as an essential element of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, as concluded by the International Court of Justice. It should be recalled that in multiple resolutions the General Assembly has stressed the need for the respect for and preservation of the territorial unity, contiguity and integrity of all of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem.
The Committee Bureau denounces the escalating Israeli settler violence and impunity, in which this order and the settlement expansion is taking place. This is Israel’s deliberate and unlawful policy of terror to consolidate a system of discrimination and domination. These acts perpetuate the Nakba of the Palestinian people to this day.
The Committee Bureau urges the State of Israel to immediately cease all illegal settlement activities in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and to halt all acts of violence against Palestinians. The Committee Bureau calls on the international community to take concrete actions and steps to ensure compliance by Israel with its international obligations, including relevant UN resolutions.
