UNITED NATIONS SPOKESMAN'S REPLY TO QUESTIONS ON ISLAMIC CONFERENCE
RESOLUTION ON ISRAEL'S MEMBERSHIP IN UNITED NATIONS
A United Nations spokesman was today asked by the media for comment on a resolution adopted by the Islamic Summit, in Taif, Saudi Arabia, calling on the General Assembly to reject the credentials of the Israeli delegation and freeze its membership in the United Nations.
The spokesman stated:
"This matter was not raised with the Secretary-General by any participant in the Conference at Taif. You know, of course, that the Secretary-General has always supported the principle of universality of membership in the United Nations so that all countries are able to present their viewpoint at the United Nations, whose principal purpose is the peaceful solution of international disputes."
