SECRETARY-GENERAL DEPLORES RECENT VIOLENT INCIDENTS IN GAZA
The following is attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General:
Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali has been following with concern recent developments in the Gaza Strip, where tension remains high following several violent incidents, which he deplores. He is especially concerned about the safety and protection of Palestinian civilians residing there, with respect both to their physical and economic well-being. Recalling the Security Council's Presidential Statement of 4 April, the Secretary-General yesterday urged Israel to abide scrupulously by its obligations under the Fourth Geneva Convention.
