Alleged truce violation by Jewish forces – Letter from Egypt

DUAL DISTRIBUTION

LETTER DATED 7 NOVEMBER 1948 FROM THE REPRESENTATIVE OF EGYPT

TO THE SECRETARY-GENERAL CONCERNING ALLEGED TRUCE VIOLATIONS

BY JEWISH FORCES ON 5 NOVEMBER

With reference to my letter of 23 October 1948 (distributed as document S/1052), I have the honour to inform you further that I have received from my Government a communication to the effect that the Zionists raided Faluja on Friday, 5 November, in the afternoon, long after the last resolution of the Security Council had been issued, killing some of the Egyptian troops and a large number of citizens.

I should be grateful, therefore, if you would urgently bring the above matter to the attention of the Security Council and of the United Nations Mediator for Palestine, for action, and inform me in the meantime of the measures taken by the United Nations in this respect.

(Signed)  M. Fawzi

Representative of Egypt

to the Security Council
