CABLEGRAM DATED 29 JANUARY 1949 FROM THE ACTING MEDIATOR

TO THE SECRETARY-GENERAL TRANSMITTING A REPORT

CONCERNING FOOD AND MEDICAL CONVOYS FOR AL FALUJA

To the President of the Security Council:

I have the honour to report that the first United Nations supervised and escorted food and medical convoy in implementation of the undertaking entered into by the Provisional Government of Israel on 24 January 1949, as reported to the Security Council in document S/1227), entered Al Faluja on 28 January 1949.  This convoy carried some 25 tons of supplies, estimated to be sufficient for one week, to the Egyptian Military Forces and the approximately 3,000 civilians in the Al Faluja pocket.  The operation was carried through without incident.
