UNDP Distributes gifts to Cancer Patients and orphans

From Jerusalem, West Bank and Gaza

Jerusalem, September 06, 2009 – Mr. Khaled Shahwan, UNDP Deputy Special Representative of Operations, accompanied by the Hospital head of the social department, visited the Haddasah Ein Karem hospital cancer clinic on Sunday 6th September, 2009. More than 60 MP3’s were distributed to hospitalized pediatric cancer and chronically ill children ranging in age from 4 weeks to 17 years old.

Mr. Shahwan was visibly moved and impressed with his visit stating “it was gratifying to see children get up out of their beds to meet us. We were able to put many smiles on the faces of children in treatment and their caregivers”. The MP3’s can be used as entertainment devises during the long treatment hours and even record a doctor’s advise.

This comes as part of UNDP’s donation of US$10,000 worth of gifts to children undergoing treatment for cancer. The gifts will go to around 250 children from Jerusalem, West Bank and Gaza being treated at the Augusta Victoria hospital and Haddasah Ein Kerem in Jerusalem and Al Hussein hospital in Beit Jala.
