Celebrating the Opening of an X-Ray Unit in Hebron Emergency Center in H2 Area
in the Old City of Hebron Funded by the Japanese Government
Today, on 23rd
January, 2014, Mr. Junya Matsuura, Ambassador for the Palestinian Affairs and Representative of Japan to the PA attended the opening ceremony of the project for “Establishing an X-Ray Unit in the Hebron Emergency Center” in H2 area in the old city of Hebron, in the presence of Hebron Governor, Mr. Kamel Hmaid, in addition to representatives from local authorities and institutions. The project was funded by the Government of Japan in February 2013, through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).
Health Workers Committee in Hebron utilized the grant of $101,137 to establish an x-ray unit by remodeling an existing two rooms in the Hebron Emergency Center and installing an x-ray system, other office equipments and basic furniture in the control room and waiting area. This project will contribute to alleviate the physical and economic burdens of around 48,000 Palestinians who live in the H2 Area in the old city of Hebron who are in need for x-ray services and always suffer from Israeli Authorities’ practices which prevents them from moving freely. Thus, the medical services will be improved within H2 area and people’s suffering will be quietly relieved.
Mr. Matsuura in his speech emphasized Japan’s firm commitment of supporting Palestinian people from human security perspective as well as the importance of implementing social and economic development projects needed for Palestinian communities.
Since 1993 the Government of Japan has extended its official development assistance exceeding $1.34 billion, to the Palestinians. GGP projects have been formulated in collaboration with the Palestinian Authority through MoPAD since 2010.
