Statement by the spokesperson of Catherine Ashton,

EU High Representative, on the burning and vandalism

of a mosque in Al-Mughayyir, West Bank

The spokesperson of Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the Commission, issued the following statement today:

"The EU strongly condemns the burning and vandalism of a mosque in Al-Mughayyir yesterday.

The respect of freedom of worship is an essential value.

The EU takes note of the condemnation of the Israeli government and calls on the authorities to

investigate this attack and bring the perpetrators to justice.

These provocations undermine efforts to promote a comprehensive peace in the region. The EU will continue to focus all its efforts on achieving a peaceful and negotiated resolution to the Israel Palestinian conflict."
