Japan welcomes meeting between Israel and Palestinians in Amman – Japanese Foreign Ministry statement/Non-UN document


Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, on the meeting between Israel and the Palestinians

1. The Government of Japan welcomes the meeting between Israel and the Palestinians held in Amman, Jordan on January 3, as a positive step toward progress of the Middle East peace process. Japan pays deep respect for the efforts by His Majesty King Abdullah Ibn Al Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Mr. Nasser Judeh, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan and the Quartet for having actively prepared the meeting.
2. Japan sincerely hopes that the meeting will lead to early resumption of the direct negotiations between both parties. At the same time, Japan calls upon both parties to make sincere efforts not to undermine the peace efforts among various parties and to build mutual trust for the progress of the Middle East peace process.
