Press Release

OIC Secretary General Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu

Condemns Israel for kidnapping the Speaker of the PLC

The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, strongly condemned Israel for kidnapping the speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) Dr. Abdelaziz Dwaik.. He also emphasized that the kidnapping is a flagrant breach of the international law, holding Israel responsible for the safety of the PLC speaker and other PLC members it had kidnapped earlier.

The OIC Secretary General also strongly condemned Israel for the killing campaign it perpetrates against innocent civilians in the Gaza strip by exploiting the preoccupation of the international community of its ongoing aggression against Lebanon. The crimes committed by Israel against unarmed innocent civilians in Gaza demonstrates once again the urgent need for a serious and swift action by the international community to put an  end to the Israeli assault and its utter contempt for humane values and international laws and conventions, which criminalize the targeting of civilians.

Therefore, the OIC Secretary General calls on the members of the UN Security Council as well as the Quartet to move expeditiously in order to compel Israel to stop its aggressions against the Palestinian people and to take adequate measures to protect the Palestinian civilians from the Israeli brutal onslaught.
