An Additional US$ 22 Million for Improving Infrastructure in Palestine

Jerusalem, December 10, 2015– Sweden contributed the amount of SEK 190 million, equivalent to US$ 22 million to the Palestinian Partnership for Infrastructure Development Multi-Donor Trust Fund (PID fund) administered by the World Bank.
The funds contributed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) will support the Palestinian Authority implementing priority activities in water and urban development, including carrying out reforms in the water sector, and improving the dire conditions of the water and sanitation situation in Gaza. The operations will also support the Palestinian local governments to improve service delivery and good local governance through an incentive program that links disbursements to achievements.
The PID fund was established in 2012 with the objective of improving the coverage, quality, and sustainability of infrastructure in the Palestinian territories through financial and technical support in the water, urban development, and energy sectors.
With the new contribution, the total amount allocated to the PID fund is about US$ 101 million. Sweden has contributed so far an amount equivalent to around US$ 40 million. Currently, donors contributing to the fund include the governments of Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and Sweden.
