OIC Secretary General renews call for an international peace conference in the Middle East – OIC Press release/Non UN document

OIC Secretary General renewed his call for an International
Conference for Peace in the Middle East.
 

In implementation of the provisions of the Final Communique of the Expanded Ministerial Level Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) which was held on 18.11.2006 on the massacre perpetrated by Israel in Beit Hanoun, the OIC Secretary General Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu addressed messages to the UN Secretary General, the Foreign Ministers of the United States, Spain, Finland, Italy, France and the Russian Federation as well as to Mr. Javier Solana, the EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy, Mrs. Benita Ferrero-Waldner, the European Commissioner for External Relations, and Mr. Marc Otte, the Special Representative of the European Union for the Peace Process. In his message the OIC Secretary General renewed his call to convene an International Conference for Peace in the Middle East on the basis of the international legitimacy, the principle of Land for Peace and the Arab Peace Initiative, in order to ensure to bring an end to the Israeli occupation of the occupied Palestinian and Arab territories and the establishment of the independent Palestinian State. Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu also reiterated the OIC’s readiness to play an active role in the convening of this international conference.
