EXAMINATION OF DELEGATES' CREDENTIALS

GC(42)/27/Corr.1 issued 23 September 1998

TEXT OF COMMUNICATION DATED 23 SEPTEMBER 1998
RECEIVED FROM THE RESIDENT REPRESENTATIVE OF ISRAEL
TO THE INTERNATIONAL ATOMIC ENERGY AGENCY

Sir,

The Delegation of Israel to the regular 42nd General Conference of the IAEA rejects the continued efforts of several Member States to pursue political issues through the General Committee, as reflected in Document GC(42)/22 of 23 September 1998, addressed to the Chairman of the Credentials Committee, General Conference of the IAEA.

As clearly outlined in Article VI of the "Rules of Procedure of the General Conference", the procedure of credentials examination is solely intended to ensure that credentials of delegations have been properly issued and timely presented.

This procedure is in no way a political one; nor is it intended to be used as a means for advancing political interests. The content of the above-mentioned document is therefore irrelevant to the important tasks of the General Committee and is foreign to the purpose and duties of the IAEA and this General Conference.

The Delegation of Israel requests that this document be included in Conference's report and be treated as an official document of the Conference.

(Signed)

Giora Amir

Ambassador of Israel

The Chairman of the General Committee
