RCA to build four schools in Palestine

WAM Abu Dhabi, 19 Feb. 2013 (WAM) — The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has agreed to build four schools in Palestine, RCA Chairman Ahmed Humaid Al Mazrouie announced today after the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) presented a proposed project for building 8 schools at a total cost of AED 58.8 million.

The RCA will build the four schools in the first phase of the project.

At a meeting with the RCA Chairman today, Mr. Peter Ford, Representative of the UNRWA Commissioner sought the RCA assistance to rebuild the health centre at the Shafat refugee camp in Jerusalem at a total a value of AED 5.6 million.

Mr. Ford updated Al Mazrouie on progress of work in a raft of projects UNRWA is undertaking with financial assistance from the RCA including the AED 73.4 million fully serviced 600 house residential city in Khan Yunis.

The RCA is sponsoring 2,930 orphans and 88 poor families in Gaza Strip.

The UNRWA highly commended the RCA's humanitarian efforts to improve the living condition of Palestinian refugees in a number of Arab countries.

He said UAE's vital development projects in Palestine was spurring other donors to follow suit.

He noted that prompt actions by the RCA in the Palestinian scene were instrumental for meeting urgent essential needs of the population there.

He praised the RCA projects in Palestine as a bright milestone in its honourable record of humanitarian works.

He added he himself sensed the far-reaching effect of the RCA programme on the daily life of the Palestinian people.
