Australian emergency aid for Palestine

Australia will contribute $500,000 in humanitarian assistance for Palestinians, the Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Mrs Chris Gallus, announced today.
'The Australian Government will provide humanitarian relief to Palestinians in Rafah through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA),' Mrs Gallus said.
'Our contribution to the UNRWA's Rafah Emergency Appeal will help supply shelter and medical assistance to the most vulnerable Palestinian communities.
'Australia has contributed more than $11 million in humanitarian aid for the Palestinian territories and refugees in 2003- 04.
'We also increased annual funding for international humanitarian, emergency and refugee programs by $13 million to $146 million in last month's budget,' Mrs Gallus said.
