Senior UN political official visits Israel, occupied Palestinian territory
18 November 2005 – The top United Nations political official has begun a visit to Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory, meeting with Israeli National Security Adviser Giora Eiland yesterday and touring Gaza to see firsthand the situation on the ground in the aftermath of Israel’s disengagement from the area in August.
Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Ibrahim Gambari, who yesterday ended a visit to Lebanon, today toured the Rafah crossing point to view the recently-agreed border crossing arrangements between Gaza and Egypt.
Tomorrow, he will meet with Palestinian leaders in Ramallah.
