OIC – EU Troika Declare Commitment to the Project of Alliance of Civilizations

 

The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and the European Union (EU) Troika met yesterday in New York City on the sideline of the United Nations General Assembly annual meetings, with a defined and clear cooperation agenda which included: Alliance of Civilizations, Cooperation in the framework of the United Nations including UN Reform, human rights, and Middle East Issues.

Assistant Secretary for Palestine and Jerusalem Affairs Ambassador Samir Bakr raised the issue of peace and security in the Middle East and the need for resolving the Palestinian cause on the basis of international resolutions and legitimacy. Although commended the political and financial support by the EU to the Palestinian people and the continuous endeavor to revive the stalled peace process, Ambassador Bakr called on the EU to get more active in the peace process in order to help the Palestinian people achieve their national independence. He emphasized that resolving the Palestine – Israeli conflict would inevitably promote the issue of Alliance of Civilizations.

The OIC – EU Troika adopted the agenda and agreed to meet again in a few months for further deliberations
