Japan Celebrates the Completion of a project in Beit Dajan
Funded through Japan’s Grassroots Assistance

Mr. Takeshi Okubo, Ambassador for the Palestinian Affairs and the Representative of Japan to the PA with the participation of Nablus Governor, Major General Akram Rjoub, Chairman of the Palestinian Energy Authority, Omar Kittaneh and Director of Ministry of Local Government, Sameer Dawabsheh, today attended an opening ceremony for the project of “Rehabilitation and Upgrading of Electricity Network in Beit Dajan”. The project was funded by the Government of Japan through Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).

A grant of USD 102,427 was extended to Beit Dajan community to replace 5,683 meters of the old existing electricity cables with new ones and to install a new transformer along with connecting medium voltage cables. With the completion of this project, 713 households comprising of around 3,500 people will benefit from safe and improved electrical supply.

In his speech, Mr. Okubo emphasized Japan’s firm commitment in supporting the Palestinian people to better ensure “human security” and to implement social and economic development projects that are important for the empowerment of Palestinian communities.

Since 1993, the Government of Japan has extended its Official Development Assistance exceeding $1.6 billion to the Palestinian people. GGP projects have been formulated in collaboration with the Palestinian Authority through Ministry of Planning and Development (MoPAD) since 2010.
