Ramallah, 25 February 2016 – Witnessed by His Excellency Prime Minister Rami Al Hamdallah, the Government of Austria and UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People signed a Euro 2 million contribution to the Community Resilience and Development Programme (CRDP) in support of the Palestinian population living in Area C.

“Austria’s support for the UNDP Community Resilience and Development Programme is a tangible expression of Austria’s commitment to a viable Palestinian state in the framework of a negotiated two-state solution,” said Dr Andrea Nasi Head of Mission at the Austrian Representative Office.

Led by the Palestinian Government, the CRDP is funded by the Governments of Sweden, Austria, and Norway and implemented by UNDP. The additional resources will bring the total donor contribution to the CRDP programme to over USD 19.7 million.

UNDP Special Representative of the Administrator, Roberto Valent highlighted that the Community Resilience and Development Programme (CRDP) is an excellent instrument to support the resilience of the Palestinian population in Area C, improve their livelihoods, and empower them to advance their own development and aspirations. “The Austrian contribution represents an important step in reducing the vulnerabilities that impact the Palestinian communities in Area C while opening also space for improving their living conditions and fulfilling their rights to live a dignified life”, he added.

Since its inception in September 2012, the CRDP supports the resilience of Palestinians living in various marginalized communities and localities in Area C and East Jerusalem, in addition to its contribution to the newly established inter-ministerial committee on Area C. CRDP projects target a number of sectors including economic empowerment, social welfare, education, water and agriculture.

The ceremony was held on Thursday 25 February 2016 in the presence of H.E. Prime Minister Rami Al Hamdallah; Dr Jawad Awwad – Minister of Health, Dr Andrea Nasi – Head of Mission at the Austrian Representative Office; Ann-Sofie Nilsson – Consul General of Sweden; Roberto Valent – UNDP Special Representative of the Administrator and accompanying delegation.
