EXAMINATION OF DELEGATES' CREDENTIALS

TEXT OF COMMUNICATION DATED 29 SEPTEMBER 1999 RECEIVED FROM THE RESIDENT REPRESENTATIVE OF ISRAEL TO THE INTERNATIONAL ATOMIC ENERGY AGENCY
Sir,
The Delegation of Israel to the regular 43rd General Conference of the IAEA rejects the continued efforts of several Member States to pursue political issues through the Credentials Committee, as reflected in Document GC(43)/31 of 28 September 1999, addressed to the Chairman of the Credentials Committee of the General Conference of the IAEA.
As clearly outlined in Article IV of the "Rules of Procedure of the General Conference", the procedure of credentials examination is solely intended to ensure that credentials of delegations have been properly issued and timely presented.
This procedure is in no way a political one; nor is it intended to be used as a means for advancing political interests. The contents of the above-mentioned document is therefore irrelevant to the tasks of the General Committee and is foreign to the purpose and duties of the IAEA and this important General Conference.
The Delegation of Israel requests that this document be included in this Conference’s report and be treated as an official document of the Conference.
