Grant from Japan enables Za’atara Municipality to Rehabilitate Water Network – Press Release

Grant Completion of a Project for Rehabilitation of Water Network in Za’atara, Funded by Japan

Today, August 29th ,2016, Mr. Takeshi Okubo, Ambassador for the Palestinian Affairs and Representative of Japan to the PA, visited Za’atara in Bethlehem Governorate to celebrate the completion of a project funded by the Government of Japan through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).

The grant of US $101,110 extended to Za’atara Municipality was used to secure sufficient tap water supply for the residents who currently suffer from insufficient clean water, by replacing the old damaged water pipes in 5 locations in the village. The direct beneficiaries are estimated around 2,000 residents (324 households).

In his speech, Mr. Okubo emphasized on Japan’s firm commitment to enhancing the human security of Palestinians as well as on implementing the socioeconomic developmental projects that will lead to the empowerment of the Palestinian communities.

Since 1993 the Government of Japan has extended its official development assistance to approximately $1.7 billion, to the Palestinians. GGP projects have been formulated in collaboration with the Palestinian Authority through Ministry of Finance and Planning since 2010. (END)
