Didier Reynders calls for restraint and calm in the Middle East

date: 09 July 2014

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders remains very concerned by the deterioration of the situation in Israel and the Gaza Strip. He strongly condemns the rockets launched by armed groups, which are aimed indiscriminately at Israeli civilians, and he also regrets the civilian victims resulting from the Israeli response to these attacks.

Like the EU High Representative Catherine Ashton, Minister Reynders calls on all parties to show restraint in order avoid victims and restore calm. It is imperative to implement a ceasefire in order to stop the spiral of violence that will bring neither peace nor security to Palestinians and Israelis.
