Ihsanoglu Condemns Israel’s Decision To Construct 2610 Settlement Units In East Jerusalem
The Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, strongly condemned Israel for its decision to build 2610 settlement units on lands in the West Bank, located between Jerusalem and Bethlehem. He emphasized that Israel’s settlement policy is illegal, a flagrant violation of United Nations resolutions, and a blatant challenge to the will of the international community and the latest statement of the Quartet calling for an end to unilateral measures.
The Secretary General stated that this new settlement plan could isolate Jerusalem from its Palestinian environ, serves as a settlement cordon around the southern side of the City and prevents Palestinians from carrying out urban development on their land.
The Secretary General called on the Quartet and the UN Security Council to assume their responsibilities and adopt a decisive stand that would put an end to these illegal provocative measures and practices in the entire Occupied Palestinian Territory, particularly in East Jerusalem.
