OFFICIAL STATEMENTS 184
Situation in Palestine
25/06/2014
Spain expresses its deep concern over recent events affecting the Middle East Peace Process and believes that efforts should be made to avoid an escalation that could prove highly counterproductive for all parties concerned and would make it harder to find a solution supported by the international community.
Spain reiterates its condemnation of the kidnapping of three young Israelis, as well as all other acts of terrorism, and demands their release while also calling on Israel to exercise restraint and proportionality in its response so as not to further exacerbate the tension currently in the Palestinian Territories. Several people have already been killed, which Spain deeply regrets, and it is essential that any further loss of human life is avoided.
Spain welcomes the determination of President Abbas in his rejection of terrorism and urges the Palestine Authority to actively continue working towards a positive outcome to this crisis capable of swiftly resuming the negotiations as the only way to implement the two-State solution.
