PRESS RELEASE

THE OIC SECRETARY GENERAL WELCOMES THE INVITATION

TO CONVENE AN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

FOR PEACE

Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, the Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference welcomed President Bush’s call for convening an International Conference for Peace in the Middle East.

Prof. Ihsanoglu stressed that the OIC has always endeavoured to promote a just and comprehensive settlement for the conflict in the Middle East that would bring  an end for the hardships of the Palestinian people which continued for the last sixty years, on the basis of international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, a settlement that would ensure the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people including the establishment of their independent State with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital on their land which has been occupied since 1967.

He also expressed the hope that this invitation will provide a serious step towards ending the Israeli occupation of all occupied Arab territories and promoting just and comprehensive peace on all tracks in the Middle East.
