Romanian FM reviews bi-lateral relations w/ PA PM Fayyad – Romanian Foreign Ministry press release/Non-UN document

Foreign Minister Titus Corlãþean has met with Salam Fayyad,
Prime Minister of the Palestinian National Authority

11 October 2012 — As part of his visit to Ramallah, Foreign Minister Titus Corlãþean was received on 10 October by Salam Fayyad, Prime Minister of the Palestinian National Authority.

The talks between the two officials provided the opportunity for a review of the bilateral relations and the best ways to deepen them. In this respect, continuing the consultations in the framework of the Romanian-Palestinian Intergovernmental Committee in the first half of 2013, in Bucharest, was deemed the most comprehensive and efficient mechanism.

Emphasis was given to the need to intensify economic cooperation, with examples of specific projects in such areas of direct interest as water management, agriculture, animal husbandry, health care. The Romanian official proposed that cooperation projects be managed by a joint sub-committee on economic cooperation.

Noting the density of bilateral contacts in recent years, the head of Romanian diplomacy also encouraged direct ties between Chambers of Commerce and Industry and between Romanian and Palestinian business people, as well as creation of a Romanian-Palestinian business council.

Prime Minister Salam Fayyad made a presentation of the domestic situation, noting the adverse effects of the financial crisis on the Palestinian economy and the population’s standard of living.

Minister Titus Corlãþean underscored Romania’s availability to provide assistance to the Palestinian authorities, in the areas of expertise of the Romanian side, i.e. agriculture, the emergency medical system, and education.
