From that perspective, and because of the proximity and close ties between Africa and the Middle East, we cannot but express our serious concern about the lack of progress on the establishment of a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East. In that regard, Algeria fully supports the position taken by States parties at the last NPT Review Conference calling upon Israel to adhere to the NPT and to place its nuclear installations under the comprehensive safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
