of Indonesia to the United Nations addressed to the

Secretary-General

In my capacity as Chairman of the Islamic Group of the Organization of the Islamic Conference in New York, I have the honour to inform you that the Group met on 2 April 1997 to consider the grave developments resulting from the illegal Israeli actions in the occupied Palestinian territory, including Jerusalem, in particular its commencement of construction activities at Jabal Abu Ghneim.

In this regard, the Islamic Group expressed support for the request submitted to you by the Permanent Representative of Qatar as Chairman of the Group of Arab States members of the Arab League for the convening of an emergency special session of the General Assembly pursuant to Assembly resolution 377 (V) entitled "Uniting for peace", to consider the illegal Israeli actions in occupied East Jerusalem and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territory.

I should appreciate it if you would have the present letter circulated as a document of the fifty-first session of the General Assembly under agenda items 33, 35 and 85, and of the Security Council.

(Signed)  Nugroho WISNUMURTI
