The President: The Security Council will now begin its consideration of the item on its agenda. The Security Council is meeting in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations.

Members of the Council have before them the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (for the period from 17 January to 17 July 2000), document S/2000/718, and the letter dated 24 July 2000 from the Secretary-General to the President of the Security Council, document S/2000/731.
