Secretary-General appoints Nickolay Mladenov (Bulgaria) as United Nations Special Coordinator for Middle East Peace Process – SecGen letter to SecCo President

Letter dated 30 January 2015 from the Secretary-General addressed to the President of the Security Council

Following the usual consultations, I wish to inform you of my intention to appoint Mr. Nickolay Mladenov (Bulgaria) as the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and my Personal Representative to the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority. He will succeed Mr. Robert H. Serry (Netherlands), who will complete his assignment on 31 March 2015.

Mr. Mladenov currently serves as my Special Representative for Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq. In his capacity as Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, he will represent me in all meetings and structures involving the parties and the international community, and provide political guidance to the United Nations system. He will also coordinate all United Nations activities on the ground relating to the Middle East peace process, with the aim of ensuring that the contribution of the United Nations is fully integrated and coordinated.

I should be grateful if you would bring the present letter to the attention of the members of the Security Council.
