Forty-first session Agenda item 3 |
CREDENTIALS OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE FORTY-FIRST SESSION
OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Letter dated 27 October 1986 from the Permanent Representative of
Israel to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General
On 21 October 1986 the Arab Group once again unsuccessfully attempted to challenge the credentials of Israel. Although Israel's credentials were found in due form by the Credentials Committee (A/41/727), the Arab Group contested this decision. It issued a letter (A/41/689) containing gratuitous and unfounded allegations totally extraneous to the work of the Credentials Committee. The Arab Group thus deliberately abused the credentials procedure of the United Nations and, through its intervention on the floor of the plenary, sought to undermine the broad consensus on the principle of universality.
The Government of Israel is pleased that, this year as in each of the past four years, additional countries joined the overwhelming majority of members rejecting this irresponsible action.
I have the honor to request that this letter be circulated as an official document of the General Assembly under agenda item 3.
