Jerusalem/Settlements – GA emergency session – Letter from Indonesia as chairman of OIC

Identical letters dated 9 July 1997 from the Chargé d'affaires a.i. of

the Permanent Mission of Indonesia to the United Nations addressed to

the Secretary-General, to the President of the Security Council and to

the President of the General Assembly

In my capacity as Chairman of the Islamic Group of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) in New York, I have the honour to inform Your Excellency of the meeting of the Committee on Palestine of OIC on 3 July 1997 to discuss the proposal for the resumption of the tenth emergency special session of the General Assembly and also the blasphemous acts against the Holy Prophet (SAS) committed by Jewish settlers two weeks ago.

In this regard, the Islamic Group of OIC in New York fully supports the request by the Group of Arab States for the resumption of the tenth emergency special session of the General Assembly pursuant to General Assembly resolution ES-10/2.  It also views with grave concern the act of blasphemy perpetrated by a female Israeli national in Al-Khalil on the Holy Prophet (SAS), whom she depicted in a poster in a most disrespectful manner possible.

I would appreciate it if you would have the present letter circulated as a document of the tenth emergency special session of the General Assembly and as a document of the Security Council.

(Signed)  Arizal EFFENDI

Chargé d'affaires a.i.

Ambassador

Deputy Permanent Representative
