Human rights in southern Lebanon

Report of the Secretary-General

1. At its forty-third session, the Commission of Human Rights adopted resolution 1987/54 of 11 March 1987 concerning the situation of human rights in southern Lebanon.  In paragraph 4 of the resolution, the Commission requested the Secretary-General:

"(a) To bring the present resolution to the attention of the Government of Israel and to invite it to provide information concerning the extent of its implementation thereof;

"(b) To report to the General at its forty-second session and to the Commission on Human Rights at its forty-fourth session on the results of his efforts in that regard".

2. In accordance with the request, the Secretary-General, on 3 July 1987, addressed a note verbale to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel in which he requested the Minister for Foreign Affairs to inform him on the extent of the implementation of this resolution by the Government of Israel.

3. No reply had been received at the time of the preparation of the present report.
