ANNEX

Statement issued on 31 January 1990 by the Ministry for

Foreign Affairs of Tunisia regarding the immigration of

Soviet Jews into occupied Palestine

At a time when the international community is uniting its efforts with a view to achieving a peaceful, just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian question, guaranteeing the Palestinian people its legitimate rights and offering the peoples of the region security and peace, provocative statements are being heard from Israel which confirm that country's aggressive intentions, its expansionist plans and its attempts to sabotage peaceful negotiations aimed at ending the Arab-Israeli conflict.

The Tunisian Government, which vigorously condemns such statements and stances that flout United Nations resolutions and international conventions and take advantage of the climate of international détente so that Israel can put its plans into action and carry out its premeditated designs, calls upon the great Powers, international forums and world opinion to shoulder their responsibilities by opposing Israel's practices and ensuring that the conditions are laid for a just peace in the Middle East region.

The Tunisian Government, which has consistently expressed its appreciation for the unwavering position of principle of the Soviet Union regarding the Palestinian cause, calls upon that country to thwart all maneuvers by Israel to attract Soviet nationals and make them a part of its expansionist plans, to the detriment of the indigenous population.
