Letter dated 26 November 2000 from the Permanent Representative of Lebanon
to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General
On instructions from my Government, I have the honour to inform you that on the morning of 26 November 2000, the Israeli enemy fired 90 artillery shells on the Kfar Shuba area and carried out an aerial attack on one of the hills in the same region, firing two missiles. During the course of this Israeli attack, the Lebanese citizen Ahmad Fayiz Hussayn, aged 22 years, sustained injuries to the knee and 50 cattle belonging to Ghassan Abd al-Aal, which were grazing in the Shanuh area between Kfar Shuba and Bastara, were killed.
This Israeli aggression constitutes a violation of Security Council resolution 425 (1978) and of Lebanese sovereignty. The targeting of civilians and their interests in the liberated areas sets a dangerous precedent that threatens security in the area and could have consequences for which Israel would bear sole responsibility.
I should be grateful if you would have this letter circulated as a document of the Security Council.
