The President (spoke in French): The Security Council will now begin its consideration of the item on its agenda. The Council is meeting in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations.

Members of the Council have before them the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, document S/2003/38. Members also have before them document S/2003/111, which contains the text of a draft resolution submitted by France.

I should also like to draw the attention of the members of the Council to the following documents: S/2003/36 and S/2003/73, which contain letters dated 9 and 20 January 2003, respectively, from the Chargé d’affaires a.i. of Lebanon addressed to the Secretary-General, and S/2003/96, which contains a letter dated 27 January 2003 from the Permanent Representative of Israel addressed to the Secretary-General.

It is my understanding that the Council is ready to proceed to the vote on the draft resolution before it. Unless I hear any objection, I shall put the draft resolution to the vote now.

There being no objection, it is so decided.
