Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar

The Secretary-General met with H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar. The Secretary-General thanked the Amir for Qatar’s active cooperation with and general support to the United Nations, including hosting the upcoming World Summit for Social Development. The Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for Qatar’s contribution to mediation efforts and peace.

The Secretary-General and the Amir discussed Israel’s attack on Qatar as well as regional issues, particularly the war in Gaza. The Secretary-General reaffirmed the urgency for reaching a ceasefire and a hostage release deal and unimpeded lifesaving humanitarian access across Gaza. They also discussed the continued need to provide financial support to UNRWA.
